UHI as you know it today, started as a simple cardiac clinic at Mulago Hospital in 1958. This journey began when we transitioned from a clinic to a fully-fledged facility i.e Uganda Heart Institute (UHI).
Our In-patient services run for 24 hours. These include Children and Adults’ admissions for both medical and surgical conditions. The average length of stay on the ward is 5 days.
We offer services in medical procedures/tests done in a professional and standard manner hence eliminating the patients need for overnight stay. This includes Rheumatic Heart Disease, Paediatric, Heart failure, Arrhythmia and Pacing, Hypertension/Ischemia, Cardiomyopathies, Surgery (Adult and Paediatric)
It is a type of emergency service which provides at least three separate administrations of one or more medications by intravenous push/bolus or by continuous Infusion (excluding crystalloid fluids).
Through small electrode patches attached to the skin of one’s chest, arms, and legs. These signs are thereby detected by recording the electrical activity of one’s ticker.
With the ECG test, our Cardiologists are able to:
• Check on things that are abnormal, such as thickened heart muscle
• See if you have poor blood flow to your heart muscle (Ischemia)
• Diagnose a heart attack
• Check your heart rhythm
The test utilises the use of sound waves to take “moving pictures” of the heart.
An ECHO test will be done if you have;
• A congenital heart defect.
• Unexplained chest pains.
• A heart murmur.
Or if you’ve had;
• A heart attack.
• Rheumatic fever.
