BEATING CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES TOGETHER
World Heart Day serves as a global reminder to prioritize cardiovascular health. The World Heart Federation has been leading the World Heart Day movement – informing people around the world that cardiovascular disease (CVD), including heart disease and stroke, is the leading cause of death globally. More than 20 million lives are lost every year because of CVD, and World Heart Day is an opportunity to highlight the actions that individuals can take to prevent and manage CVD.
In Uganda, the Uganda Heart Institute (UHI), mandated by the UHI Act of 2016, plays a pivotal role in coordinating the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in alignment with the goals set forth in the third National Development Plan (NDP III). As a member of the World Heart Federation, UHI annually observes World Heart Day on September 29th, contributing to global efforts to raise awareness about heart health.
From 2024 to 2026, the campaign theme “Use Heart for Action” encourages individuals to advocate for cardiovascular health, urging global leaders to prioritize this issue. This year’s campaign, we urge people to use their hearts for action by uniting global communities against cardiovascular disease, driving international initiatives, promoting heart-healthy lifestyles, and advocating for heart health as a fundamental human right.
